The Vortex Grit Removal System is a highly efficient unit combining hydraulic vortex and aeration agitation to separate heavy inorganic particles (sand, grit, gravel) from wastewater while minimizing organic matter carryover.
A controlled vortex flow field allows grit to settle by centrifugal force, and the collected grit is removed via airlift or screw conveyor. It is widely used in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants.
Working Principle
As wastewater enters the chamber, it is induced into a tangential vortex motion by the flow guide and aeration system.
Under centrifugal and gravitational forces, grit settles to the bottom, while lighter organics are carried away.
Collected grit is discharged automatically via airlift or screw conveyor.
Continuous aeration prevents anaerobic conditions and odor formation.
Main Components
Vortex Tank: Reinforced concrete or stainless steel tank for stable flow.
Flow Guide Cylinder: Regulates velocity distribution and enhances vortex strength.
Aeration System: Includes blower, air piping, and diffusers for rotational flow.
Grit Hopper & Discharge: Collects and removes grit via airlift or screw conveyor.
Control System: PLC automation with interlocking functions.
